For reproducing the problem fully, it turns out that using a directory name  
like [bad] is not enough: Lilypond-book then just fails to find the files  
and regenerates them every time.  A directory name that is actually invalid  
(rather than unmatched) as a glob needs to be taken, like [b-ad] (negative  
character range).
