http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=3560The difference between your and my proposal is that my proposal is upwards-compatible to previous behavior and that it is without inconsistencies for \tuplet 3/2 ... unless you use dotted notes inside (kind of unusual for triplets, particularly when crossing measures). Your variant jumps between behaviors in that case depending on length.
Music like that of Josquin de Prez has little qualms having triplets crossing measures. Admittedly, I'd _hate_ using the completion engravers on music like that (not a win in readability).
On the other hand, an option discriminating on divisability is harder to explain.
