If a multimeasure rest in one voice spans a forced line break in another  
voice, the MMR is printed twice, with the full value of the rest each time.

Example from Simon Albrecht:

\paper { indent = 0 line-width = 30 }
\relative << R1*2 \\

{ c'2 \bar "" \break c c1 } >>
*************
Simon's report showed the problem with a single bar, and I've made it into  
a true MMR above.

He mentions the desirability of automatic splitting of the MMR, and  
suggests a low priority.
