Ok, now I am seriously pissed.  I've just spent about a day desperately  
getting new functionality added into the documentation info files and  
seeking the fault elsewhere.

The problem is that
a) Documentation/out/markup-commands.tely contains the new information
b) Documentation/out/markup-commands.texi which should be generated from it  
does _not_ contain new information.
c) make doc-clean touches _neither_ file !!!!
d) the modification date of both files is pretty close, and looks like

But it is obvious from the contents that the second file has been generated  
from a quite older version of the former file than the one on disk.  Either  
the process generating the second file opened the first file for reading  
before it got replaced, or it read the contents from an entirely different  
directory.

So what's up here? Ccing a few build script specialists.
