I've just tested downloading the headers for one of the example .ly files,
and get
Content-Type: text/x-lilypond
as shown in the two screenshots above. I think Windows browers (including
Firefox) generally ignore the mime type and simply use the association of
the extension (.ly) to determine how to "open" the file. As a general
rule, I assume we want .ly files associated with the lilypond executable,
and so won't want to change this. It therefore seems likely to be not
possible to do this enhancement on Windows. On my Ubuntu box, the .ly file
is opened in my preferred editor.
