The recent commits do not look like they could interact with this patch.   
The only thing I see that could cause intermittent trouble is my attempt to  
reserve size for delayed stencils like page numbers.  These delayed  
stencils do no work quite right in some of the collected regression tests  
(but seem to work find on their own).
