Regarding this comment from #15:
If the commented-out tweaks can be put into the function definitions, we
would regain the old behavior.
I would like to know whether this is possible...
\with-dimensions is especially useful IMHO for giving an option a zero
dimension, so I would rather tend to option 1) in comment #17 in case there
isn't a better solution.
