An image of the problem, fairly extremely enlarged and with the flag in red  
to emphasise.  To me, it looks like the flag should be slightly shorter, so  
it joins the stem exactly at the top of the stem, and I would also get rid  
of the ugly sharp bend at the top end of the flag.
