http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2348The comments on the patch (http://codereview.appspot.com/6944061) suggested that "restrainOpenStrings" should mean that open strings are restrained to the same level as normal frets. If 'restrained' means to obey 'minimumFret and 'maximumStretch then that would be the current behavior.
That would be logical, but is not intuitive so would need documentation, see issue 3029 If anyone can suggest words for documentation on that issue, or an example where the perfectly logical current behavior shown at issue 3029 could be useful, great. Otherwise, I'll push the patch above.
