Thanks a lot Johannes, that all sounds great! I'm glad you focussed on the displacement of note boundaries rather than tweaking note durations - that's exactly what I was getting at in my previous comments. And your \vienneseWaltzLilt example looks like a nice interface. Really looking forward to hearing some MIDI renderings of these different styles now! Don't suppose you'd have a few spare minutes to try this out on http://www.mutopiaproject.org/ftp/StraussJJ/O314/blue_danube/blue_danube-a4.pdf and post a link to an ogg vorbis file?

Do we need a separate issue to track the velocity weighting? Though any higher-level user-facing functions for applying swing would ideally wrap up both the temporal and volume displacements into a convenient single interface for the most common use cases.
