Adam, that doesn't sound like icing, that sounds like a whole other cake :)

Rolling velocity envelopes could be a useful feature on their own, and
needn't be rolled up into swing *unless* the velocity information
corresponded directly to the displacement. Even still - keeping them
decoupled could make everything simpler.

Do the rhythmic displacement aspects work for you though ? I still haven't
put this code through its paces, but I think the interface is great.
