Re comment 3: While it makes sense for OctavateEight to inherit properties
like transparent, color and font-size from its superior grob it would cause
some difficulties if this were extended to Stems and Flags.  For example,
the recent patch posted by Werner needs to override the transparent property
of Notehead without affecting Stem - see
