http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=1670A general comment on the idea: while sometimes i miss the ability to use digits in variable names, i believe that adding support for this will increase confusion a lot, as well as make things more complicated.
Thus, i'm generally opposed to the change :(
