ps2pdf is part of ghostscript.  It's true that ghostscript contains a  
binary called "gs", but it also contains binaries such as "ps2pdf".

As far as I understand it, Laura is using lilypond to create a ps, then  
using ghostscript 9.04 ps2pdf to convert that ps into pdf.  The question is  
whether the problem arises due to a bug in lilypond's ps creation, or due  
to a bug in ghostscript versions between 8.70 and 9.05 (not inclusive).  I  
think this requires people who are quite familiar with ps files to  
investigate.
