I have always played two notes which are the same note tied together with a sluras tied notes.
Those marks, that look somewhat like slurs, joining those notes were not slurs; they were ties. Sometimes people write slurs joining notes on the same pitch, usually with another mark to indicate the type of note-separation.
The manual section on Rhythms explains how to input ties, the section on Expressive Marks explains slurs, and there is a glossary explaining the difference. The section on Rhythms, which comes first, even has a note warning that slurs and ties are different.
