Oddly enough, simply re-runnimg test-patches seems to have changed the test  
environment enough that the second run showed only the expected changes in  
output-distance and a log file.  Quite puzzling, but it may be due to the  
first patchy run being unhappy about the patch to issue 1983: after I added  
a comment containing a Rietveld URL, test-patches was completely happy with  
both patches and with a third which had come up in the mean time.
