Gould p.153, quoted in issue 2246, supports starting beams off-the-beat and  
beaming 5 eighth-notes together.

Workaround, that preserves proper beaming of 16th notes,
\set Timing.beamExceptions = #'((end . (((1 . 8) . (6)) ((1 . 12) . (3 3  
3)) ) ))
