This code will not work for detecting single notes in current versions: try  
2.15.39.  The reason is that single notes are no longer wrapped inside of  
an EventChord.  You might also want to take a look at the slides of  
<URL:http://chemnitzer.linux-tage.de/2012/vortraege/900>.  While  
manipulation in a music function makes good sense, the engraver route may  
be feasible for tasks that conceptually are strictly a matter of different  
chord display.
