Basically this stops relying on local updates of release/unstable.

I am not sure about the actual source of the following GUB
instructions, but superficially it looks as though they would get
their data upstream and not rely on local branches.

As long as we are not talking about the actual upstream repository
itself (in which case you will make people unhappy), it might make
sense to just remove the local branch with

git branch -d release/unstable

What isn't there can't get out of date.
