Your micro-patch does work and does not bother me.

As long as package developers are aware of how things should be done 
in order to use "latest" libtool 2.1, it does not bother me if their 
packages do break.  Libtool 2.1 is a work in progress and should be 
released soon.  Other opinions may differ.
