After patching for test -L, using gcc 2.95.1, the suite now passes for me on 
Solaris 8 and Solaris 2.5.1.  I can't reproduce the failure with quote.test, 
so I am assuming Solaris is now in pretty good shape.

Thanks for all the test btw (pity they all failed...)!
