Unresolved Symbols in executable

Hello again,

After removing unresolved dependency tracking in automake, I can now get
things to complie under Irix (thanks Gary!!) But Im getting an
unresolved symobl error when I try to run my executable:

461195:lt-evolver: rld: Fatal Error: attempted access to unresolvable
symbol in
/disk2/people/wighton/test/lib/libfoo.so.1:
_M_fill_insert__Q2_3std253vector__pt__238_PQ2_3std111_Hashtable_node__pt__88_Q2_3std78basic_string__pt__58_cQ2_3std20char_traits__pt__2_cQ2_3std18allocator__pt__2_cQ2_3std105allocator__pt__88_Q2_3std78basic_string__pt__58_cQ2_3std20char_traits__pt__2_cQ2_3std18allocator__pt__2_cGPPQ2_3std111_Hashtable_node__pt__88_Q2_3std78basic_string__pt__58_cQ2_3std20char_traits__pt__2_cQ2_3std18allocator__pt__2_cUiRCPQ2_3std111_Hashtable_node__pt__88_Q2_3std78basic_string__pt__58_cQ2_3std20char_traits__pt__2_cQ2_3std18allocator__pt__2_c

Running the test cases, it fails on harcode.test with a similar error:

FAIL: hardcode.test
457242:lt-hell: rld: Error: unresolvable symbol in lt-hell: foo
457242:lt-hell: rld: Error: unresolvable symbol in lt-hell: nothing
457242:lt-hell: rld: Fatal Error: this executable has unresolvable
symbols

Although the error could be due to my inexperience with the autobuild
system, it seems odd that the test case failed with the same error, and
that everything works fine on Linux.

What is the unresolevd symbol error usually attributed to?? is this a
known issue?? or am I doing something wrong?? are there any
patches/workarounds??

Here is some relevant information

> libtool --version
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.3.5 (1.385.2.206 2000/05/27 11:12:27)

> uname -sR

Thanks for all your help
