"I haven't used it, but could it be that it is that it's
dependent on proprietary android google maps
software until someone makes it work with open streetmap?"   I just opened the onebusaway
app, and it is currently using google maps.  I'm surprised, since most of the apps I've used or read about use open street maps.  So, yep, it does need to be made to work with open street maps to be included in fdroid, afaict.  So, that's two seperate projects.

Project One: convert metro trip planner to libre software, along with the map used.  Also, make metro trip planner more usable.

Project Two: Make onebusaway able to work with open street maps.

I think that's a laudable goal. I don't have any idea as to how to
implement it, but maybe public.resource.org would have some suggestions
on how to begin, since they do the same thing with a different kind of
'code'.
