Under GNU/Linux we compile the library with:

make

then we install the library with:
sudo make install

then we build the examples with:
make check

We develop it exclusively under GNU/Linux. Off course it would be good if someone ported the library to other systems :-) Thanks for your efforts. Maybe these instructions help a bit?
