yeah, there wasn't any logging in the jail.

In the end I decided to go with chrooted bash so this problem remains unsolved. If I have the time to try to get jk_lsh working later, I'll probably be back with some more info :)

do you have any logging in the jail (either with syslog or with jk_socketd?)

I cannot say without the log messages. I *guess* you did not setup
logging in the jail.
