As Spiro pointed out different "versions" of CVS do different things.
* CVS does what you say
* CVS on Cygwin createes Unix line endings
* CVSNT on Unix/Windows/Mac does the same as CVS
* CVSNT on Unix/Windows/Mac also has options so you can "force" some
files to check out in Mac/Dos/Unix line endings regardless of platform
(-k+D, -k+M, -k+U)
