Neither of them are incorrect. They are both 'as designed'. The whole
point of Cygwin is to make available a different system with a different set
of conventions.

If you see that happen, it's probably a bug in that sed is opening the
output file in binary mode; it would be helpful if you could report it to
the cygwin list and it would most likely get fixed.
