Just to be pedantic......

Note cvsclient.texi documents not just the cvspserver protocol per se --
but rather the whole generic client/server protocol that works equally
well over any virtual circuit connection (rsh, SSH, maybe stunnel, etc.)

Within that document the node "Connection and Authentication", under the
heading "How to Connect to and Authenticate Oneself to the CVS server"
contains a few short paragraphs that describe the "pserver" protocol
itself.  There are further details of pserver passwords in the "Password
scrambling" node.

Also keep in mind this from the "Goals" section:

   * Security and authentication are handled outside this protocol

The implications of this point are far deeper than might at first be
apparent within the rest of the document.
