The layout algorithm you want to use is implemented in Gephi and you should be able to import gml, graphml and other formats without problem. Anyway you can use Gephi forum and get quick help.

Yes, that makes sense if You have not that many vertices.
I tried Cytoscape and Gephi but both software couldn't properly display files imported from GraphML and GML.
I would really like to save coordinates produced by algorithm and have a readable graph in automated fashion. Do You maybe have any suggestions of other software worth to try ?

Sorry, we don't have any support for that currently. You can move the
vertices by hand on the tkplot device, and then query and save the
coordinates with tkplot.getcoords().
