The drawing code in the R interface is completely independent from the
drawing code in the Python interface - the Python interface does not support
alpha values at the moment. At least not the 0.5.4 version; the development
version (0.6) supports it, but you have to compile and install the
corresponding C core and the Python interface yourself from source.
