Hi Florian,

here are two functions for retrieving and setting all vertex attributes at once:

get.vertex.attributes <- function(graph) {
  as.data.frame(unclass(graph)[[9]][[3]], stringsAsFactors=FALSE)
}

set.vertex.attributes <- function(graph, attr) {
  g2 <- unclass(graph)
  g2[[9]][[3]] <- as.list(attr)
  class(g2) <- "igraph"
  g2
}

But note that 'get.vertex.attributes' only works if you can really
convert vertex attributes to a data frame. It might not work if you
have complex vertex attributes. Also, 'set.vertex.attributes' does not
do any checks that 'attr' has the right number of rows, you add this
if you like.
