    Jose - "recsel -S" sounds like just what I'm looking for. I'd be
    interested in knowing what sorting options it supports, for example:
    
    1) Can you sort on field X and then field Y or just on one field at a
    time?

Just one field.  You could then pipe another recsel to refine your sort.
    
    2) Can you specify the sort should be alphabetic vs numerical or is
    it only alphabetical?

It depends on the type of the field.  If it is an int, a real or a range
the comparison is numerical.  If it is a boolean, it works as expected.
If it is a date, previous dates comes first, and so on...
    
    so if you have a pointer to the documentation on that I'd like to
    take a look.

You can generate the manual in either 1.3.90 or the git version.  I will
update the online manual as soon as 1.4 is out.
