I think that's worth a bug report.

It maybe that
* Octave has no way to distinguish between detecting Java and invoking it (I
don't know)
* This case is more of an "upstream" issue.
Yet a bug report, even if not fixed at the octave side, may help other users
searching the bug database for clues how to rectify their problem.
