Hi. I am having difficulty getting serial data from micro-controllers into
Octave so that I can analyse the data. I have been able to copy data from a
spreadsheet OK (with help from this forum) but I would like to input the
data direct from my win 10 pc COM port.

What is the related connection between a spreadsheet and a serial port?
I think you have describe a little bit in which format you are trying to send the data or show the AVR code.

Since you are using windoze you haven't the many possibilities as under GNU/Linux but octave instrument-control should make it fairly simple.
