octave exited with signal 6

[Milo Westler]

I am using octave 4.0 on UbuntuMate 16.04. Octave was working perfectly, now it won't start.
 

As an icon:
/usr/bin/octave --force-gui is what I have been using but it no longer works.

In a terminal:
~>/usr/bin/octave
octave exited with signal 6
