Yes, and this does appear to be a matlab incompatibility:

Matlab 2016b:

>> limit (1/x,x,0)
ans =
NaN
>> limit (1/x,x,0,'right')
ans =
Inf
>> limit (1/x,x,0,'left')
ans =
-Inf
