What you are doing here is called "thread hijacking". Please don't do
this on mailinglists and please use bottom or interleaved posting style.
And please don't contact developers directly, there is the help
mailinglist for questions like this.

You code works for me on Octave 4.2.0-rc2 (I don't have a currently
access to a system with a previous version).

Which version are you using?
