As Tatsuro said: there are two types of installers for windows. The .exe installer and the .zip archive.

For the .exe, download the file and run it (double click, etc.). It will go through the normal windows program installation process. I believe you can only have one version of Octave installed with this method.

For the zip file installers you download the file and then extract the contents to some location on your hard drive. Most people make a C:\Octave folder and unzip the Octave archive into it. There is a octave.bat file in there that can be used to execute the program. You can manually make a shortcut to this batch file and put it in your desktop, task bar, etc. Using this method you can have multiple versions of Octave on your computer at the same time, each in a separate folder under the main Octave folder.

everyone else: Would there be a good spot on the website to put this info where people will see it prior to downloading the stable windows versions?
