I am trying to use the IO package (xlh=xlsopen(Tout,1,'COM');)
I get the error message
Octave not compiled with the Java Interface.

Does IO need the Java interface?

That depends on the format you would like to read/write.

Reading .xlsx (not .xls!!), .ods and .gnumeric works fine without java since io-1.2.4/1.2.5

Writing .xlsx and .ods works fine since the last release (2.2.0) without java too.
Because it is still new, it should be considered as experimental.

If so, how do I compile MXE_Octave with
java support.

Thanks
