The problem is caused by a conflict between octave's SIGCHLD handler and
the qt process handling (see https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?38305, and
comment #41 for the problem with the zipped info files). My knowledge on
signal handling is too limited to provide a solution to this problem.
As Dieter already has mentioned, a workaround is to unzip the info files.
