NickJ,

The code I was shown was from a specific MATLAB package.  For a project I was told we needed to learn MATLAB.  When I brought up learning Octave as a possibility, I was told not too because of serious compatibility issues.  The code differences I was shown were from an add-on package in MATLAB, so code differences now appear not as serious as I was lead to believe.  Furthermore, the openSUSE version is still 3.6 so I actually still thought that Octave did not have a GUI.  Thanks for the update.  Is the GUI part of an IDE?

Please try to include the mailing list in your replies, as there are many others more capable of answering than I am.

If you provide more specifics on the application, and specific functions of interest, others may be able to comment on the currect state of compatibility.

I'm patiently awaiting a stable Windows build of 3.8, so I also can't comment on what the 3.8 gui does and doesn't provide. I do believe an IDE was in the planning with the GUI, though.
