Sure:
Matrix xyz (args(0).matrix_value ());
const octave_idx_type cols = xyz.columns ();
const octave_idx_type rows = xyz.rows ();
I suggest reading some of the files in octave-src/libinterp/dldfcn/ an
look how they do input checking.
