Better be a little careful there.

E.g., strsplit.m in core octave as changed, so functions in OF packages
depending on strsplit do at least require some attention. 
unpack.m is another example, although that one actually became better (bug
fix).
Maybe some other OF functions rely on core Octave functions that were
already deprecated earlier on and have finally gone in 3.8.0.

But OK I think there aren't many of these cases.
I'd suggest to just be brave and simply try + carefully check if all
required OF functions still work properly.
