Image viewing: one pixel per screen pixel

When I view an image with imshow, as I move the cursor around on the image I see the coordinates change in the bottom left: (158.967, 80.1610) sort of thing.  However, I would much rather have the pixel index shown (with (1,1) in the top left), so that the positional output is always given as a list of integers.  If that list could include the current gray value as well: (42,87,173) for example, that would be even better.

Is there any way of obtaining this?
