Hi there, I don't know if this helps. I'm taking Professor Andrew Ng's
Machine Learning as well and had a little problem installing Octave on my
Mountain Lion. I'm not sure if it's the same since I didn't understand some
of the post here. But I reinstalled X11(which showed in my Utility folder
but wasn't installed actually) then reinstalled Octave and Gnuplot. And it
runs fine. Hope this helps.
