Modifying the Octave source to work with a specific piece of nonfree
software can be a GPL violation.  However, modifying the Octave source
to support Matlab binaries is a different issue.  There is nothing
wrong with making it support any format.

Note also that some of those binaries may be free programs released
with source.  Even if this hasn't been done yet, it could be done.
Maybe we should invite people to free their Matlab programs.
