It was released, but quietly, and it has become the basis for some
packagings, e.g. Debian's and thus Ubuntu's backports.

Regardless, the 3.6.x series should all be uniformly able or unable to
build the communications package, since we are striving to maintain
ABI compatibility within it. I doubt a different member of the 3.6.x
series will make a difference, so please post the actual error message
you saw to see if we can diagnose the problem.

So far 3.6.3 had worked for me, except for the issue with the communications package.

I have now built and installed 3.6.2 and everything is fine, including communications.

Sorry, I cannot get the log Jordi asked for without taking several hours to switch back to 3.6.3.

Thanks for all the hints.

Jordi mentioned a package for ubuntu.

So far ubuntu still has octave 3.2 , that is why I build from source. Any idea when the updated package will become available?
