You are right in that, but I understand there is good reason to maintain
said syntax discrepancies, that being the Matlab compatibility, with all the
usual detrimental effects such sort of compatibility implies.
No amount of caveats ("Octave traps") will cure that, I think. A new set of
access capabilities, possibly?
