Thanks for the additional info, Michael, entirely my fault for not realizing
I specifically needed the C++ version.
I used the VC++ 2010 version of Octave, so I'll get the 2010 version of
Visual C++ Express. I added the bin directory to the PATH environment
variable and tried using mkoctfile in Octave, but no luck. I also tried
using the full pathname in Command Prompt and no luck there either. But I
have a usable solution, and my Octave project is working, so I'm satisfied.
I just tried a different file and it worked again!
