what version of octave, operating system and graphics backend are you using?
on my system (OSX 10.6.8, Octave 3.6.0)
I can zoom in gnuplot using right-click (or command-click when using the
trackpad)
I can zoom in fltk using mouse wheel (or two-finger drag when using the
trackpad)
